What's On in the District

TOASTMASTERS REGION 12 : Toastmasters International is a world leader in communication and leadership development. Our organisation has more than 352,000 memberships. Members improve their speaking and leadership skills by attending one of the 16,400 clubs in 141 countries that make up our global network of meeting locations.

The organisation is grouped into 14 Regions. Ours is Region 12 which includes District 17 (Western Australia), 69 (Queensland, Northern Territory and Papua New Guinea), 70 (NSW below the Parramatta River), 72 (all of New Zealand South Island plus a small part of North Island), 73 Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia), 87 (Indonesia, Brunei and East Malaysia), 90 (NSW above the Parramatta River – that's us!) and 112 (most of New Zealand's North Island).

Our International Leaders are working servants of the Districts and member clubs within our Region. International Directors serve on the Toastmasters Board of Directors and their primarily responsibility is to develop policies that enhance the member’s experience.

Region Advisors assist with the function of District operations and training when called upon. The marketing of Toastmasters is paramount to this position.

What key factors are most important as a Region Advisor to help the District achieve success:

Building a rapport with the District leader is key for me as Region Advisor to being able to effectively support my District leaders to achieve success. Without that nothing will work.

As Region Advisor I support, coach, and guide District leaders. District leaders are responsible for their District; therefore, it is important to help them gain clarity of their role and the District mission. I support with identifying personal goals and goals to achieve the District mission. Being there as they navigate the storming phase of team building and support them to manage any conflict, is essential to help them focus on their role and the District mission and goals. Together with the District leaders, inspire others to take on leadership roles within and beyond the District. Support District leaders with their success, marketing, and communication plans drawing on my Toastmasters and business knowledge. I nurture our region community through region gatherings and Facebook group. Utilize my training, facilitation, and coaching skills for District Leader Training and when on official visits. Listen to our leaders and tailor my support to their needs while staying true to the role of Region Advisor.

What key strengths do you bring to the District leaders?

My top three strengths are strategic, futuristic, and learner. I feel that all three are of value to the District leaders I am working with. As a futurist I see what is possible, I am optimistic who looks for and sees opportunities and possibilities. During these COVID times, this is proving to be essential in supporting the leaders as it gives them hope and belief that in creating a brighter future for their District. My strategic and learner strengths provide a foundation for identifying paths to achieving their goals.

As a coach I am trained in supporting individuals and teams to find their solutions and uncover their answers – their truth. When they discover their solutions and answers, they grow as leaders.

All of these strengths and skills support me when working with individual leaders and teams on a daily basis.
